COMMUNITY VOICE

An effective community, like an effective person, is able to identify and express its needs, desires and insights in a way that others hear, understand, take seriously and respond to. FRI works with residents and organizations to develop and practice communication skills for the betterment of the entire community.

Rather than existing as separate programs or initiatives, these activities are integrally bound to FRI’s community engagement work. For instance, to succeed, the Frazier Neighborhood Initiative and Unify South Dallas must have the ability to find, analyze and disseminate accurate, timely information in a way that reaches and engages the broader community. FRI’s staff helps residents and other stakeholders understand the value of those skills and helps them develop them through practice.

FRI also analyzes the usefulness of various information technologies in the context of the Frazier community. Over time FRI will develop strategies to deploy new technologies or use existing ones (for example, text messaging) in new ways that support greater community engagement.
